First And Last

Charles Macfarlane

No time in life can quite compare
With starting an affair;
No thrill can ever quite replace
That very first embrace;
And never will you feel such bliss
As when your lips first kiss;
No joy could ever rise above
That first consuming love;
There's few contentments that life brings
As sharing all your things;
And now together in your home
You'll never need to roam.

No thing in life is black despair
Like ending an affair;
No emptiness can feel so base
As like the last embrace;
And ever will you sadly miss
The lips you used to kiss;
And never can you rise above
The loss of selfless love;
There's no bitterness life brings
As splitting all your things;
And now you'll be condemned to roam
Forever from your home.
