Although ScaleLine was fixed for v2.9, written 1 : X Scales are
still erroneous on some projections, for example Spherical Mercator.

The map in the centre has the wrong scale value (red). The map on the right has the correct scale value (green).
This demo used to use OpenLayers 'trunk' (/dev/) API to allow for easier testing of potential solutions by OL developers. However, recent OL work in trunk has now broken the Scale control - although the word Scale is displayed, no figures are printed, and if one attempts to use the mooted solution to the incorrect scale that was the original subject of this demo, which is to give the Scale control a {geodesic:true} parameter, the control is not displayed at all. Consequently, this demo now uses the live v2.10 API instead.
