Cold is the wind the window rattles
And steals around my heart;
Lonely the room where I sleepless lie,
My love and I apart.

Sleep, sleep, gentle girl,
Wherever you may be  -
Your long brown lashes softly curl
On cheeks I long to see.

Even though I be not there
My spirit hugs you still,
And shall, as though by magic fair,
For you some dream distil.
